Spring Valley is a marriage of two churches: Allendale re:formed and Spring Valley Community Church. Allendale re:formed was formerly Lighthouse Community Church and previous to that, First Reformed Church of Allendale. It is steeped in almost 100 years of history and has been located on the corner of 60th Avenue and Lake Michigan Drive in various forms over the course of those 100 years. Spring Valley Community Church was birthed in the fall of 2000 with a vision to reach the quickly changing and growing college community of Allendale, MI.
The heart of this church has always been to accept people as they are and help them become more like Jesus.
One word that essentially summarizes this is: transformation. Thus, the phrase, “Come as you are, but don’t leave as you came”. To help people feel more comfortable, many of the traditional elements found in church might not be noticed here. At the same time, we do place tremendous importance on the doctrinal beliefs of the historical Christian church. While we have folks from various backgrounds and ages who call Spring Valley their home, we are primarily a young church that attracts a lot of families consisting of new parents or who have small children.
