Week 12

moving on

As summer is coming to a close & for those of us who are parents, we are realizing that our kids are will be heading back to school – it may be for the first time (preschool or kindergarten), changing schools, moving onto college (yikes!), getting married, having their own kids, or maybe somewhere in between. Children can be “trying” sometimes, even at the best of times, and we need to remember Psalm 127:3;

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”

Our guidance to raise and direct our children should come from Him. Proverbs 22:6 says,

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

For those of you who may be having a child leave for college and move away, there are some important words to remember.  When they are away from you, have faith that you did your best and that they have the foundation to make the right decisions, and to find their own path.  Not to say that they won’t make mistakes, but you have faith that you raised them up in the way of the Lord all those years.  They WILL make mistakes – we all do as adults – it’s a part of life, it’s the learning curve we must all go through.  We learn from our mistakes, and we aim to keep them as minimal as possible.  If your child is looking for a little encouragement, here are a few verses that they can take with them as they enter into a new season of school, wherever that may be:

“…Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

“God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”  Isaiah 30:21
