There’s no hiding it, we’ve all seen it; the beach bodies – whether it’s on the singing sands at Grand Haven or the shores of Florida – they are there. I’m not just talking about the beach bodies that are attractive to the eye of either male or female, but all beach bodies – how comfortable people are in their own skin. Are you? Scripture is explicit to tell us in 1 Peter 3:3-4,
“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”
What kind of beauty do you see in people? Someone who has that true inner beauty – the beauty that God values so much more highly than the outer beauty that some have – that inner beauty shows through like a light in the night. For we are created in God’s own image and by the image of God we are created (Genesis 1:27), and what greater inner beauty could we possess than to be created in the image of our Mighty King? It doesn’t have to be on the beach, we see it in people every day. God lays out such an incredible promise to us in the Psalms about our inmost being,
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body .” [ Psalm 139:13-16 ]
What are some inner beauty qualities that you see in people? Next time you are taking a trip to the beach, know the promises God has declared about our creation and our inner beauty.
