Week 5

flip flops and beach towels

Now that it’s summer time (praise the Lord for that), we’ll probably head to the beach at one time or another pretty soon. And if you’re like me, I will pack everything! Or, at least I think I do!  Towels, sunscreen, toys, umbrella, book, snacks, sunglasses, etc… But without fail, I forget something at home or heaven forbid – in the car – and I don’t want to truck it back to the car to get it!  No matter how many lists or mental reminders I make, I will always forget something.  But, how many times in our faith journey do we try to remember everything – not to lie, to build people up, not to judge, to be a good person, to go to church, don’t gossip, to be part of a small group, to do my devotions every day, to pray constantly, etc… Try as we might, we will fail at times – because we are not perfect. Psalm 119 is the answer to our never ending mental checklist of spiritual to-do’s – and more specifically Psalm 119:9-11,

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

The psalmist shows us that by hiding God’s word in our heart on a daily basis, He will direct us in the way of His commands. Challenge yourself this week – pick something to do consistently in your walk with Christ, stay on task & make it a habit.  Maybe start easy with a daily prayer – “Dear God, I come to you open and ready, what do you have for me today?”
